Prevalence and correlates of antisocial personality disorder in older adults

Katherine J. Holzer et al.

Summary: There is a lack of research on antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) in the geriatric population, and most of the knowledge on the disorder comes from young adult samples. It is believed that the prevalence of ASPD, as well as other personality disorders (PDs), is underestimated among older adults. This study examined the prevalence and correlates of ASPD in adults aged 50 and older using a nationally representative sample.

Attention recruits frontal cortex in human infants

Cameron T. Ellis et al.

Summary: The study used fMRI to investigate how infant attention is supported by the brain during an attentional cuing task. It found that regions of adult attention networks are activated more strongly in infants during the task, indicating that these regions may function early in development to support the orienting of attention.

Antisocial Personality Problems in Emerging Adulthood: The Role of Family Functioning, Impulsivity, and Empathy

Eleonora Marzilli et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the possible interplay between antisocial personality problems, the quality of family functioning, impulsivity, and empathetic problems in a community sample of 350 emerging adults. Results indicated a predictive effect of parental behavioral control, motor impulsivity, and empathetic concern in antisocial personality problems, with motor impulsivity and empathetic concern partially mediating the relationship between parental behavioral control and emerging adults' antisocial personality problems. The research supports the complex relationship between individual and relational protective and risk factors involved in antisocial personality problems during emerging adulthood, with implications for intervention treatments.

Anterior insula and inferior frontal gyrus: where ventral and dorsal visual attention systems meet

Dario Cazzoli et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that enhancing the activity of the ventral attentional network in right-hemispheric stroke patients can improve the reaction speed of the dorsal attentional network to visual stimuli and alleviate neglect symptoms. This effect is significantly associated with the integrity of the right anterior insula and adjacent inferior frontal gyrus.
