Main components of ethyl acetate extract of Chimonanthus salicifolius and its effects on intestinal mucositis in mice induced by 5-fluorouracil

Huiping Wen et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the main components of Chimonanthus salicifolius ethyl acetate extract (EAECS) and investigated its effect on intestinal mucositis in mice induced by 5-fluorouracil. The results showed that EAECS contains rich flavonoids and coumarins, and it can alleviate intestinal mucositis through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Effect of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis MN-Gup on constipation and the composition of gut microbiota

R. Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that MN-Gup could significantly decrease the time of constipation onset, increase fecal wet weight and number, increase gastrointestinal transit rate, and thus relieve constipation. In humans, the intervention with MN-Gup yogurt significantly improved constipation-related symptoms and increased acetate-producing Bifidobacterium and gut microbiota composition.

Functional Constipation and the Gut Microbiome in Children: Preclinical and Clinical Evidence

David Avelar Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Functional constipation is a common condition in childhood that continues to persist in a significant number of children despite conventional management. The refractory and chronic nature of constipation emphasizes the importance of considering various pathophysiological mechanisms, including the potential role of the gut microbiome.

Pediococcus acidilactici Strains Improve Constipation Symptoms and Regulate Intestinal Flora in Mice

Yiteng Qiao et al.

Summary: This study found that four different Pediococcus acidilactici strains showed some improvement in the time to the first black-stool defecation and gastrointestinal transit rate in constipated mice. There were significant differences in the gastrointestinal regulatory peptides and gut microbiota among the different groups, especially with the bacteriocin-producing strains. Overall, while constipation-related symptoms were only mildly alleviated, the administration of these strains effectively regulated the gut flora and potentially provided health benefits to the host.

Summary: Functional constipation is a common disorder characterized by heterogeneous symptoms and can be categorized into different subgroups. Recent research has shown a strong association between gut microbiota and functional constipation, involving a decrease in beneficial bacteria and an increase in potential pathogens.
