A smartphone-integrated method for visual detection of tetracycline

Jun Xu et al.

Summary: The emergence of “superbugs” due to antibiotic pollution in the environment has highlighted the need for a portable, on-site, and simple method for detecting antibiotics. A dual-channel fluorescent nanoprobe based on laponite was developed for the detection of tetracycline, with successful detection from 30 nM to 54 μM and a detection limit of 9.5 nM. Visual probes based on paper and gloves were also devised for detecting tetracycline, showing promising potential for real-world application in smart devices.

Recent progress in smartphone-based techniques for food safety and the detection of heavy metal ions in environmental water

Rajamanickam Sivakumar et al.

Summary: Emerging smartphone-based point-of-care tests (POCTs) are cost-effective and easy to implement in resource-limited areas, serving as a potential alternative to conventional diagnostic testing. This review explores food safety and metal ion detection in environmental water utilizing unprecedented smartphone technology, discussing various methods for target analyte detection and the relative advantages and limitations of smartphone-based POCTs developed in the last three years. Additionally, the imperative role of new technology in advancing POCTs, sensor materials, detection techniques, and challenges faced by these techniques are addressed in this paper.
