A novel calibration strategy based on isotopic distribution for high-throughput quantitative analysis of pesticides and veterinary drugs using LC-HRMS

Feifei Sun et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel LC-HRMS strategy based on isotopologue multipoint calibration (IMC) for the simultaneous quantitation of pesticides and veterinary drugs in water samples. The IMC strategy utilizes the natural isotopic distribution to generate calibration curves, eliminating the need for analyst adjustment and multiple sets of chemical standard solutions. The method demonstrates excellent accuracy and precision, and has been successfully applied to surface water analysis.

Internal calibration as an emerging approach for endogenous analyte quantification: Application to steroids

Gioele Visconti et al.

Summary: In this study, an innovative internal calibration approach using stable isotope-labeled standard version of endogenous compound was developed to improve the quantitative performance of mass spectrometry methods. The results showed that the response factors obtained on different LC-MS platforms were consistent and the quantitative results in human serum samples were similar to those obtained with conventional quantification approach based on external calibration. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the naturally occurring isotopes of SIL could be used to increase the accuracy for analytes with low concentrations.

Aflatoxin M1 in milk: A global occurrence, intake, & exposure assessment

Nikita Saha Turna et al.

Summary: The study found that milk samples from several nations such as Pakistan, India, and some sub-Saharan African countries had AFM1 levels that significantly exceeded the regulatory limits set by the United States and the European Union. This indicates a potential risk to individuals in those nations with high milk consumption. High levels of AFM1 in milk also suggest high levels of AFB1 in animal feed, which could potentially harm both animals and humans upon consumption.

Isotopic Distribution Calibration for Mass Spectrometry

Anthony D. Maus et al.

Summary: Mass spectrometry is widely used for accurate detection and quantification of analytes, with quantification performance varying between instruments and samples, necessitating the use of internal standards and external calibration curves. A new internal calibration method utilizing the natural isotope distribution of an internal standard for multipoint calibration has been developed, allowing for more efficient and accurate quantification.
