MALDI-MS analysis of disaccharide isomers using graphene oxide as MALDI matrix

Dabin Lee et al.

Summary: Disaccharides are sugars composed of two monosaccharides linked by a glycosidic linkage, with specific properties determined by the type of linkage and the identity of the monosaccharides. Using MALDI-MS with a graphene oxide matrix, seven disaccharide isomers were analyzed and their unique cleavage patterns were identified. The study demonstrated a strong linear correlation between the relative peak intensity of a sucrose fragment peak and the amount of sucrose in a mixture, which was successfully applied to quantify maltose and sucrose in different honey samples.
