Gestational exposure to acrylamide suppresses luteal endocrine function through dysregulation of ovarian angiogenesis, oxidative stress and apoptosis in mice

Dainan Yu et al.

Summary: This study found that acrylamide exposure during early- and mid-pregnancy had negative effects on luteal function, including decreased levels of serum progesterone and estradiol, reduced numbers and relative areas of ovarian corpora lutea, dysregulation of ovarian angiogenesis, increased oxidative stress, and induced apoptosis of ovarian cells.

Pubertal exposure to acrylamide disrupts spermatogenesis by interfering with meiotic progression in male mice

Ji-Guang Gao et al.

Summary: Teenagers who consume junk foods high in acrylamide (AA) may experience decreased reproductive capacity. This study investigated the effects of pubertal AA exposure on spermatogenesis in male mice. The results showed that AA exposure during puberty led to increased germ cell apoptosis, decreased sperm concentration, and defects in sperm. AA exposure also disrupted the meiotic process, affecting the progression of meiotic prophase I.

Protective Effect of Lycium ruthenicum Polyphenols on Oxidative Stress against Acrylamide Induced Liver Injury in Rats

Hua Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of Lycium ruthenicum polyphenols (LRP) against acrylamide-induced liver injury and found that LRP has potent antioxidant activity. This research provides a recommendation for the use of LRP as an antioxidant stress reliever against hepatotoxicity.

Summary: The dietary intake of acrylamide is a global health concern, with studies showing that children have higher intake levels compared to adults. Research from Europe and Asia generally estimates lower acrylamide intake in diets compared to studies from the USA, highlighting the potential for reduced exposure among certain populations.

Acrylamide and its metabolite induce neurotoxicity via modulation of protein kinase C and AMP-activated protein kinase pathways

Dahlia Triningsih et al.

Summary: The study revealed that acrylamide-induced neuronal death is mediated by the activation of CYP2E1, ERK, PKC-alpha, and PKC-8, while knockdown of AMPK exacerbates the toxic effects. Furthermore, AMPK activation suppresses ERK, suggesting a complex interplay between these pathways in cytotoxic autophagy induced by acrylamide.
