Projected lake sturgeon recovery in the Milwaukee River, Wisconsin, USA

Ronald M. Bruch et al.

Summary: Utilizing a population model, the study predicted the recovery and natural reproduction of Lake Sturgeon in the Milwaukee River from 2004 to 2048, estimating an average annual population growth rate of 6.5%. Through stocking and habitat improvements, the research suggests significant Lake Sturgeon recovery can possibly begin in a shorter time frame than originally expected on Great Lakes tributaries.

Evaluating the effects of controlled flows on historical spawning site access, reproduction and recruitment of lake sturgeon Acipenser fulvescens

Mike Friday et al.

Summary: The study determined the necessary flow conditions, quantity, and duration for lake sturgeon to successfully spawn and disperse larvae. It also evaluated juvenile sturgeon recruitment in relation to flow, tracking spawning migrations using telemetry receivers. Results showed that fluctuating or delayed spawning flows could result in restricted or delayed access to the spawning site.
