A Highly Conserved Circular RNA, circRasGEF1B, Enhances Antiviral Immunity by Regulating the miR-21-3p/MITA Pathway in Lower Vertebrates

Qing Chu et al.

Summary: A highly conserved circRNA named circRasGEF1B has been discovered to play a key role in innate antiviral responses in fish, by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) for miR-21-3p and enhancing antiviral immune responses. This study provides new insights into circRNA functions in lower vertebrates and expands our understanding of circRNAs in viral infections.

Circular RNA circPIKfyve Acts as a Sponge of miR-21-3p To Enhance Antiviral Immunity through Regulation of MAVS in Teleost Fish

Hui Su et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel circRNA called circPIKfyve was identified as a key regulator of innate immune response in teleost fish, acting as a molecular sponge to competitively absorb miR-21-3p, thereby enhancing the antiviral response by increasing MAVS abundance and activating the downstream NF-kappa B/IRF3 pathway. Additionally, it was found for the first time that the RNA binding protein QKI is involved in regulating the formation of circPIKfyve in fish. These findings suggest that circPIKfyve plays a significant regulatory role in the antiviral immune response of teleost fish.

Circular RNA circDtx1 regulates IRF3-mediated antiviral immune responses through suppression of miR-15a-5p-dependent TRIF downregulation in teleost fish

Weiwei Zheng et al.

Summary: Our study identified a novel circRNA, circDtx1, in teleost fish that is related to antiviral responses, as well as a microRNA, miR-15a-5p, which inhibits antiviral immune responses and promotes viral replication by targeting TRIF. CircDtx1 acts as a competing endogenous RNA that regulates miR-15a-5p, activating the NF-kappa B/IRF3 pathway and enhancing innate antiviral responses. This study provides insights into the regulatory role of circRNAs in immune responses in lower vertebrates.

The circular RNA circBCL2L1 regulates innate immune responses via microRNA-mediated downregulation of TRAF6 in teleost fish

Weiwei Zheng et al.

Summary: A novel circRNA, circBCL2L1, was discovered to play a crucial role in the innate immune responses of teleost fish by competitively regulating TRAF6 with miR-30c-33p, activating the inflammatory pathway, and enhancing the immune responses.

Pattern recognition receptors in health and diseases

Danyang Li et al.

Summary: Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) are a class of receptors that can directly recognize specific molecular structures on pathogens, apoptotic host cells, and damaged senescent cells, bridging nonspecific immunity and specific immunity. Through the recognition and binding of ligands, PRRs can produce immunoprotective effects against infections and tumors. Research on PRRs and their ligands has greatly enhanced understanding of the signaling pathways involved, providing insights for the treatment of immune-related diseases and tumors.
