Hypoxia mediates Hif-1α to affect myofiber development and Vc regulates the influence by activating Shh-Gli pathway in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)

Kang Xiao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of hypoxia and vitamin C on muscle development in channel catfish, and found that hypoxia inhibits myofiber proliferation and promotes differentiation. Vitamin C was found to improve myofiber development under hypoxia, possibly through the activation of the Shh-Gli signaling pathway.

Chlorogenic acid attenuates inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis and protects head kidney macrophage of yellow catfish from ammonia toxicity

Haibo Jiang et al.

Summary: The study explored the cytotoxic effects of ammonia and the protective effects of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on head kidney macrophage of yellow catfish. Ammonia treatment reduced cell viability and up-regulated pro-inflammatory genes expression, while CGA attenuated the toxic effects of ammonia. These findings suggest CGA as a potential natural supplement to alleviate ammonia toxicity in fish.

Taurine Attenuates Oxidized Fish Oil-Induced Oxidative Stress and Lipid Metabolism Disorder in Mice

Qiuping Guo et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of dietary taurine on lipid metabolism and liver injury in mice fed a diet high in oxidized fish oil. The results showed that dietary taurine could ameliorate liver injury and lipid metabolism disorder caused by the oxidized fish oil diet. Taurine supplementation improved liver function, reduced lipid levels in serum, and increased the expression of genes related to lipid metabolism in the liver. Furthermore, impaired autophagy flux caused by the oxidized fish oil diet was prevented by taurine.

Nutritional immunity of fish intestines: important insights for sustainable aquaculture

Mahmoud A. O. Dawood

Summary: Intensive culture systems may weaken fish health due to infection and stress, but balanced diets can protect fish by maintaining intestinal health. The intestinal health is crucial for fish health, and the relationship between diet and intestinal health is associated with the general immune system.

Effects of Vitamin C and E Supplementation on Growth, Fatty Acid Composition, Innate Immunity, and Antioxidant Capacity of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Fed Oxidized Fish Oil

Samad Rahimnejad et al.

Summary: The 10-week feeding experiment investigating the effects of supplementing vitamin C and E in oxidized oil diets on rainbow trout showed that while oxidized oil and vitamins supplementation did not significantly affect growth, feed intake, and utilization, supplementing with 500 mg/kg VC and 400 mg/kg VE could mitigate the adverse effects of oxidized oil on non-specific immune response and antioxidant capacity.

The possible role of catalase in innate immunity and diminution of cellular oxidative stress: Insights into its molecular characteristics, antioxidant activity, DNA protection, and transcriptional regulation in response to immune stimuli in yellowtail clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii)

W. M. Gayashani Sandamalika et al.

Summary: Catalase is a key enzyme in the antioxidant defense system of organisms, playing a crucial role in maintaining cellular oxidative balance and host immune protection. The study identified and characterized a catalase homolog from Amphiprion clarkii, highlighting its essential function in cell survival and immune defense through scavenging of reactive oxygen species. The research findings suggest that this catalase homolog may be a potential target for enhancing oxidative stress tolerance and immune response in organisms.
