Developmental stage and morphology of the competent blastocyst are associated with sex of the child but not with other obstetric outcomes: a multicenter cohort study

M. B. Borgstrom et al.

Summary: The developmental stage and trophectoderm (TE) score of competent blastocysts were significantly associated with the sex of the child, while no other associations with obstetric outcomes were observed. Blastocyst selection during assisted reproductive technology (ART) did not have negative effects on obstetric outcomes, reassuring both clinicians and patients. Evaluation of selected blastocysts' assessment scores did not pose a risk of preterm birth or affect birthweight and length at birth.

A multicenter, prospective, blinded, nonselection study evaluating the predictive value of an aneuploid diagnosis using a targeted next-generation sequencing-based preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy assay and impact of biopsy

Ashley W. Tiegs et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the predictive value of PGT-A testing in forecasting the failure of successful delivery, finding high accuracy in predicting delivery failure with aneuploid results. Additionally, trophectoderm biopsy did not have a detectable adverse impact on sustained implantation.

The Morphology of Inner Cell Mass Is the Strongest Predictor of Live Birth After a Frozen-Thawed Single Embryo Transfer

Jihui Ai et al.

Summary: The blastocyst expansion stage, ICM grade, and TE grade are all associated with pregnancy outcomes. ICM grade is the strongest predictor of live birth. A blastocyst with stage 4-5, ICM grade A, and TE grade A/B should be given priority for single embryo transfer.

Advanced trophectoderm quality increases the risk of a large for gestational age baby in single frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer cycles

Qin Xie et al.

Summary: The study found that as TE quality decreased, there was a corresponding decrease in birthweight, Z-scores, and incidence of LGA. Additionally, embryos with lower TE grades resulted in offspring with lower birthweights and decreased chances of having a LGA baby.

The influence of frozen-thawed and fresh embryo transfer on utero-placental (vascular) development: the Rotterdam Periconception cohort

Linette van Duijn et al.

Summary: The study found that the method of embryo transfer did not significantly impact early placental development, but frozen-thawed embryo transfer had a beneficial impact on uterine artery Doppler indices in the second and third trimesters.

Depletion of aneuploid cells in human embryos and gastruloids

Min Yang et al.

Summary: The research provides evidence that embryos containing aneuploid cells are still suitable for in vitro fertilization transfer. It was found that healthy births can result from aneuploid embryos, challenging the belief that aneuploid embryos should be withheld from transfer. Additionally, the presence of euploid cells can help rescue embryonic tissues in mosaic embryos.

IVF embryo choices and pregnancy outcomes

Summary: The study revealed that routine morphology-based embryo selection resulted in a high euploid selection rate, but a significant number of aneuploid embryos were still inadvertently selected for transfer, leading to high failure rates in pregnancy initiation and progression.
