Advances in ultra-high temperature ceramics, composites, and coatings

Dewei Ni et al.

Summary: Ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) have ultra-high melting points, outstanding mechanical properties, and ablation resistance at elevated temperatures, making them promising materials for structural applications in extreme environments such as rockets and hypersonic vehicles. The development of high-entropy UHTCs is an emerging direction for ultra-high temperature materials.

Quantitative Theory for the Electrical Breakdown of High-Temperature Dielectric Materials under High Temperature and Electric Field

Ruzhuan Wang et al.

Summary: The energy storage capacity theory has been developed to characterize the electrothermal breakdown behavior of high-temperature dielectric materials. A parameter-free theoretical model has been proposed, which takes into account the dielectric constant and melting point, and shows excellent agreement with experimental results for polymers and ceramics.

Theoretical characterization of the temperature dependence of the contact mechanical properties of the particulate-reinforced ultra-high temperature ceramic matrix composites in Hertzian contact

Ruzhuan Wang et al.

Summary: The paper proposes novel theoretical models for predicting the temperature-dependent contact mechanical properties of particulate composites in Hertzian contact. By expressing the basic material properties, the models reveal that the temperature mainly affects the contact damage behavior through the temperature-dependent Young's modulus and specific heat capacity.

Review on mechanics of ultra-high-temperature materials

Daining Fang et al.

Summary: This article reviews the mechanical properties of materials in ultra-high-temperature environments, discussing experimental results, constitutive models, and thermal-mechanical-oxygen coupled computational mechanics. Recent research progress on the temperature-dependent fracture strength of advanced ceramics is highlighted, with emphasis on the force-heat equivalence energy density principle. The outlook and concluding remarks are also discussed.
