Effective removal of Pb(II)/4-nitroaniline/E. faecalis and E. coli pollutants from water by a novel unique graphene quantum dots@gemifloxacin@ double-layered Fe/Al nanocomposite

Mohamed E. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: In this study, graphene quantum dots (GQDs) were prepared from mango peels and combined with Fe-Al double layered hydroxide (FA-DLH) and gemifloxacin antibiotic (Gem) to form a 3D structure nanocomposite (GQDs@Gem@FA-DLH). The nanocomposite showed efficient adsorptive removal behavior towards various pollutants, including lead, 4-nitroaniline, Enterococcus faecalis, and Escherichia coli. It also exhibited antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The removal performance of bacteria from wastewater reached 80% based on the total plate count.

Curcumin loading and colon release of pectin gel beads: Effect of different de-esterification method

Ran Cai et al.

Summary: This study characterized low methoxyl citrus pectin (LMP) de-esterified using high hydrostatic pressure assisted enzymatic (HHP-pectin) method and two traditional methods. It also prepared curcumin-pectin calcium gel beads and evaluated their curcumin-loading and colon-targeted delivery abilities. The findings indicated that HHP-pectin beads had higher rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I) proportion and branching extent, and showed improved stability and colon release of curcumin. These HHP-pectin beads may have potential applications in functional food and drug delivery.
