Tabular data: Deep learning is not all you need

Ravid Shwartz-Ziv et al.

Summary: The study compares the performance of deep learning models and XGBoost on various datasets, finding that XGBoost outperforms deep models and requires less tuning. However, an ensemble of deep models and XGBoost performs better on these datasets than XGBoost alone.

18F-FDG PET/CT and circulating tumor cells in treatment-naive patients with non-small-cell lung cancer

Fengxian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated the clinical utility of F-18-FDG PET/CT and CTCs in treatment-naive NSCLC patients. F-18-FDG PET/CT was superior to CTCs in diagnosis, while CTC levels were associated with tumor glucose metabolism and both F-18-FDG PET/CT and CTCs metabolic parameters could predict patient outcomes.

Use of radiomics based on 18F-FDG PET/CT and machine learning methods to aid clinical decision-making in the classification of solitary pulmonary lesions: an innovative approach

Yi Zhou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the effectiveness of combining F-18-FDG PET/CT radiomics features with machine learning methods to differentiate between primary and metastatic lung lesions and classify histological subtypes. Gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) and random forest (RF) were identified as the optimal classification methods for PET and CT datasets, respectively, with GBDT also considered the optimal feature selection method.

Utility of Volumetric Metabolic Parameters on Preoperative FDG PET/CT for Predicting Tumor Lymphovascular Invasion in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Chongjiao Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the utility of clinicopathologic factors and volumetric metabolic parameters from preoperative FDG PET/CT for predicting primary tumor LVI in NSCLC. The results showed that MN was an independent predictor of tumor LVI, which could potentially guide clinical decision making in NSCLC.

Identification of active molecules against Mycobacterium tuberculosis through machine learning

Qing Ye et al.

Summary: This study developed classification models using machine learning algorithms to distinguish Mtb inhibitors from noninhibitors, with the XGBoost model showing the best prediction performance. Two consensus strategies were employed to integrate predictions from multiple models, resulting in the best predictions. The association between important descriptors and bioactivities of molecules was interpreted, and an online tool called ChemTB was developed for detecting potential Mtb inhibitors.
