The Role of Testosterone in the Elderly: What Do We Know?

Summary: Testosterone is the most important hormone in male health, and aging can result in testosterone deficiency. Testosterone replacement therapy can restore testosterone levels in men, improving sexual dysfunction, increasing bone density and muscle strength, and providing cardioprotective effects. However, it may be contraindicated in men with untreated prostate cancer and may have other potential side effects.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the relationship between sexual dysfunction (SD) and overactive bladder in women with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The results showed that sexual dysfunction affected 74% of the women with MS, and overactive bladder seemed to be an independent predictor of sexual dysfunction.

The most effective sexual function and dysfunction interventions in individuals with multiple sclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: The study found that psychoeducational and medical interventions were the most common effective interventions. More than half of psychoeducational interventions showed significant improvement in sexual function, while most of the interventions in sexual dysfunction improved at least one subscale. Medical interventions were effective for male sexual dysfunction, while psychoeducational interventions were more effective for female sexual dysfunction.

This cross-sectional study found EDSS to be the only independent risk factor for SD, while depression and anxiety were not significantly related.
