An update on the current status and future prospects of erectile dysfunction following radical prostatectomy

Heba Asker et al.

Summary: This article provides a comprehensive overview of the current treatments for post-RP erectile dysfunction (ED), evaluates the underlying pathological mechanisms, and emphasizes promising therapeutic strategies based on evidence from basic research. However, clinical trial results for erectogenic drugs in this setting are conflicting, and the effectiveness of some treatment methods remains uncertain. It is necessary to transform potential treatment strategies into clinically applicable safe and effective techniques to improve erectile function after RP.

Modeling prostate cancer: What does it take to build an ideal tumor model?

Chun-Wai Mai et al.

Summary: Prostate cancer is characterized by multifocality and a high propensity to metastasize to bone. Evaluating the capability of preclinical models in replicating key genomic alterations and tumor features is crucial. The use of emerging organoid models in prostate cancer research shows clear advantages over traditional preclinical tumor models.

Morphologic spectrum of treatment-related changes in prostate tissue and prostate cancer: an updated review

Katrina Collins et al.

Summary: There are a wide range of treatment options available for patients with prostate cancer, including surgery, radiation therapy, focal therapy, and chemotherapy. The histopathologic changes induced by different treatments need to be evaluated by pathologists. In cases where clinical history is lacking but morphologic features suggest prior treatment, consultation with clinical colleagues is recommended.

A pharmacological exploration of targeted drug therapy in non-small cell lung cancer

Ajay P. Jayan et al.

Summary: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with non-small cell lung cancer accounting for 85%. Traditional chemotherapy has been replaced by targeted therapy, which has minimal side effects and focuses on tumor cells. In the past two decades, many small molecules have been developed to target specific proteins or genes, but resistance mechanisms and activation of bypass signaling pathways remain challenges.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of chalcone-polyamine conjugates as novel vectorized agents in colorectal and prostate cancer chemotherapy

Benjamin Rioux et al.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance bioavailability and selectivity of chalcone core towards cancer cells by synthesizing chalcone-polyamine conjugates, which showed significant anti-proliferative effects on colorectal and prostate cancer cell lines. The most active conjugate was found to inhibit cell proliferation by blocking the cell cycle at the G1 and G2 phase, and inducing apoptosis through several pro-apoptotic markers. The chalcone-N1-spermidine conjugate could be considered as a promising agent for colon and prostatic cancer adjuvant therapy.

Anticancer Activity of Natural and Synthetic Chalcones

Teodora Constantinescu et al.

Summary: Cancer is a disease caused by various mechanisms, and targeted therapy is the most effective approach. Flavonoids, particularly chalcones, show promising anticancer activity due to their ability to act on multiple targets. Modifying chalcone structures can lead to compounds with superior cytotoxic properties, with derivatives containing different heterocycles like azoles showing potential as new anticancer agents.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
