Macrocyclic Polyoxometalates: Selective Polyanion Binding and Ultrahigh Proton Conduction

Minghui Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, we report a method of using Preyssler anion as a supramolecular template for constructing {Mo22Fe8} macrocycle. The macrocycle exhibits selective anion binding behavior in solution, and the 1:2 host-guest complex formed in the solid state can transport protons more effectively through an extended hydrogen-bonding network.

Ultrahigh Proton Conduction via Extended Hydrogen-Bonding Network in a Preyssler-Type Polyoxometalate-Based Framework Functionalized with a Lanthanide Ion

Tsukasa Iwano et al.

Summary: A novel hybrid material composed of a Preyssler-type polyoxometalate functionalized with a 9-coordinate Eu3+ and poly(allylamine) has been synthesized, exhibiting ultrahigh proton conductivity and robust crystalline structure. The approach of strengthening and extending hydrogen-bonding network enables the material to maintain high conductivity even under lower humidity conditions.

Structural Characterization of Cerium-encapsulated Preyssler-type Phosphotungstate: Additional Evidence of Ce(III) in the Cavity

Kota Shitamatsu et al.

Summary: Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed the precise structure of a Ce-encapsulated Preyssler-type phosphotungstate, showing that the Ce in the compound has a 3+ oxidation state and is located in a side cavity coordinated to a water molecule. The structure of Ce is similar to that of other metal ions in similar compounds, providing additional evidence that the redox-inactive Ce in the compound has an oxidation state of 3+.

Bacterial hyperpolarization modulated by polyoxometalates for solutions of antibiotic resistance

Kun Chen et al.

Summary: Combining Preyssler-type polyoxometalates (POMs) with ribosome-targeting antibiotics shows high antibacterial efficiency with low risk of antibiotic resistance by affecting bacterial cell membranes and ribosome structures. Regulating bacterial growth by inducing a 'dormant' state in bacteria with POMs at early growth stages followed by antibiotic exposure demonstrates a validated approach for combating antibiotic resistant bacteria.
