Charge transfer channels of silver @ cuprous oxide heterostructure core-shell nanoparticles strengthen high photocatalytic antibacterial activity

Summary: In this study, silver @ cuprous oxide core-shell nanoparticles were synthesized using an in-situ synthesis method, showing outstanding antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The Ag@Cu2O exhibited better antibacterial activity than Cu2O with lower copper content, which was more environmentally friendly. The superior antibacterial activity of Ag@Cu2O was attributed to the generation of reactive oxygen species due to the heterostructure formed at the interface between Ag and Cu2O.

The BSA-CuS NCs showed insignificant cytotoxicity and hemolysis, making them highly biocompatible bactericides for effective bacteria eradication in preclinical applications.

Green synthesis of copper sulfide (CuS) nanostructures for heterojunction diode applications

Summary: Copper sulfide (CuS) rod shaped nanostructures with an average length of 8 to 10 nm were successfully synthesized using starch as a capping agent in a nitrogen environment. The XRD pattern revealed pure hexagonal covellite type CuS nanostructures, and the lattice parameters were estimated. These CuS nanostructures showed promising properties and were used to fabricate effective p-type layers and heterojunction devices with zinc chalcogenides. The devices exhibited good diode characteristics and the photodetector showed promising responsivity and quantum efficiency.
