Frequency and risk factors for thrombosis in acute myeloid leukemia and high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes treated with intensive chemotherapy: a two centers observational study

Federica Martella et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of thromboembolism in AML patients treated with intensive chemotherapy and assess the ability of genetic and clinical factors to predict the thrombotic risk. The results showed that previous VTE, platelet count above 100 x 10(9)/L, and active smoking significantly and independently increased the risk of thrombosis in AML patients. Further studies are needed to validate these results.

Intracranial hemorrhage in newly diagnosed non-promyelocytic acute myeloid leukemia patients admitted for intensive induction chemotherapy

Sebastian E. Koschade et al.

Summary: This retrospective study found a notable incidence of intracranial hemorrhage in acute myeloid leukemia patients, despite prophylactic platelet transfusions, with some patients dying directly from intracranial hemorrhage. Patients with intracranial hemorrhage had significantly impacted overall survival, with main risk factors including gender, severe thrombocytopenia, and decreased fibrinogen.

Prediction of life-threatening and disabling bleeding in patients with AML receiving intensive induction chemotherapy

Jurjen Versluis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of grade 4 bleeding in patients with acute myeloid leukemia receiving intensive induction chemotherapy. Through retrospective assessment of bleeding events and multivariable analysis, independent risk factors associated with grade 4 bleeding were identified. The study found that baseline platelet count and international normalized ratio were important predictors of grade 4 bleeding. A simple risk model was developed to evaluate patients' risk of grade 4 bleeding.

The incidence of cancer-associated thrombosis is increasing over time

Anjlee Mahajan et al.

Summary: Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients. The incidence of CAT varies based on tumor type, stage, and individual risk factors. CAT is associated with increased overall mortality in malignancies.

A prediction model for central venous catheter-related thrombosis in patients with newly-diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia: A derivation cohort analysis

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) in newly-diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients and to create predictive models. The study found that a history of venous thromboembolism, acute promyelocytic leukemia, high body mass index, and low platelet counts were significantly associated with high CRT risk.
