Alpinae Oxyphyllae Fructus alleviated LPS-induced cognitive impairments via PI3K/AKT/NF-κB signaling pathway

Tingxu Yan et al.

Summary: Alpinae Oxyphyllae Fructus (AOF) has been shown to improve memory decline in LPS-induced AD mice by protecting neurons through the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and reducing neuroinflammation levels. Additionally, AOF can decrease cytokine expression and NF-kappa B activity induced by LPS, demonstrating its potential anti-neuroinflammatory effects in AD models.

Downregulation of circ-ZNF644 alleviates LPS-induced HK2 cell injury via miR-335-5p/HIPK1 axis

Junzuo Gong et al.

Summary: Circular RNA (circRNA), specifically circ-ZNF644, has been found to play a role in the development of sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). The high expression of circ-ZNF644 in AKI patients suggests its involvement in the disease. Knockdown of circ-ZNF644 can alleviate LPS-induced kidney tubular epithelial cell injury through the miR-335-5p/HIPK1 axis.

Capsaicin Protects Against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Lung Injury Through the HMGB1/NF-κB and PI3K/AKT/mTOR Pathways

Hui Chen et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that CAP can protect against LPS-induced ALI by inhibiting oxidative stress, inflammatory responses and apoptosis through down-regulation of the HMGB1/NF-kappa B and PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathways. The results showed that CAP pretreatment significantly protected mice from LPS-induced ALI, with reduced lung histological damage, pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, and increased antioxidant activity.

RvD1 accelerates the resolution of inflammation by promoting apoptosis of the recruited macrophages via the ALX/FasL-FasR/caspase-3 signaling pathway

Shu-yang Xiang et al.

Summary: The uncontrolled inflammatory response during inflammation resolution contributes to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and Resolvin D1 (RvD1) can alleviate acute lung injury by promoting the apoptosis of recruited macrophages. The study suggests that RvD1 could be a potential new therapy for resolving ARDS.

Shikonin ameliorates injury and inflammatory response of LPS-stimulated WI-38 cells via modulating the miR-489-3p/MAP2K1 axis

Jinchun Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that shikonin protects WI-38 cells against LPS-induced cell injury and inflammatory response by regulating the miR-489-3p/MAP2K1 axis, thus affecting the progression of pneumonia.

The histone methyltransferase Ezh2 restrains macrophage inflammatory responses

Gareth B. Kitchen et al.

Summary: Robust inflammatory responses are crucial for survival after respiratory infections, and Epigenetic factors are increasingly being recognized as important determinants of immune responses. EZH2 acts differently in macrophages and neutrophils, affecting inflammatory responses and chemotaxis. Targeting EZH2 may have implications for mucosal immunity and conditions driven by pulmonary neutrophil influx.

Cross-tissue single-cell landscape of human monocytes and macrophages in health and disease

Kevin Mulder et al.

Summary: This study integrated a large number of mononuclear phagocytes from 13 tissues to generate a MNP single-cell RNA compendium, revealing conserved gene signatures and specialized cell subsets across multiple tissues. Specific macrophage populations were found to be expanded in cancer and inflammation, with tumor-associated macrophage populations present in all neoplastic tissues.

RUVBL1/2 Complex Regulates Pro-Inflammatory Responses in Macrophages via Regulating Histone H3K4 Trimethylation

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: RUVBL2 has been identified as a key regulator in the pro-inflammatory response of macrophages, with its inhibition affecting gene expression and nitric oxide production. Inhibition of RUVBL1/2 similarly impacts human cell pro-inflammatory responses, indicating functional conservation in humans.

Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Polarized Human THP-1 and Mouse RAW264.7 Macrophages

Pengfei Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the protein expression profiles of M1 and M2 phenotypes in human THP-1 and mouse RAW264.7 macrophages, revealing significant divergences between the two cell lines while also identifying some common up-regulated proteins in M1 macrophages. These data serve as important resources for further studies of macrophage-associated diseases in experimental pathology using human and mouse cell line models.

Cancer-derived exosomal miR-138-5p modulates polarization of tumor-associated macrophages through inhibition of KDM6B

Jing Xun et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that miR-138-5p delivered from breast cancer cells to tumor-associated macrophages via exosomes can downregulate KDM6B expression, inhibit M1 polarization, and stimulate M2 polarization, ultimately promoting tumor metastasis. Additionally, exosomal miR-138-5p levels positively correlate with the progression of breast cancer, suggesting it as a potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target.
