Low-level and combined exposure to environmental metal elements affects male reproductive outcomes: Prospective MARHCS study in population of college students in Chongqing, China

Zili Chai et al.

Summary: This study provides new evidence that exposure to metal/metalloid elements potentially has bidirectional influences on semen quality at a relatively low level, and serum testosterone may be a vulnerable indicator for metal exposure.

Chronic exposure to multi-metals on testicular toxicity in rats

Amit Gupta et al.

Summary: Exposure to aluminum, copper individually or in combination led to decreased sperm counts and increased oxidative stress, while exposure to zinc reduced oxidative stress and increased different sperm variables. Co-exposure to zinc with aluminum or copper resulted in reproductive toxicity, while simultaneous exposure to aluminum, copper, and zinc caused significant testicular injury and higher levels of oxidative stress in rats.

Summary: This study found that high concentrations of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Mn, Co, and Fe) were present in the serum of post-myocardial infarction patients, and that elevated levels of these heavy metals significantly increased the risk of myocardial infarction occurrence.

Health Risk Assessment of Exposure to 15 Essential and Toxic Elements in Spanish Women of Reproductive Age: A Case Study

Carmen Saez et al.

Summary: This study investigated the exposure of 119 Spanish women of reproductive age to essential and toxic elements, finding differences in toxic element levels between urban and rural areas. Diet preferences were also found to influence exposure levels, with higher levels of certain elements detected in women with specific dietary habits. Overall, health risks due to exposure to the studied toxic elements were expected to be low for the female population under study.
