Nexus between Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Energy Use and Economic Growth: Empirical Evidence From South Asian Countries

Usman Mehmood et al.

Summary: This article explores the relationship between greenhouse gas emissions (CO2, N2O, and CH4) and economic growth (GDP) and energy use in six South Asian countries. The study finds a non-linear relationship between CO2 and GDP, as well as between N2O and GDP, indicating the presence of an Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) in the long run. Furthermore, the analysis shows that CO2 has a positive significant impact on GDP and energy use in the long run, and a significant relationship with energy use in the short run. CH4 has a negative relationship with energy use but a positive significant impact on GDP in the long run, while N2O has a negative relationship with energy use and an insignificant positive relationship with GDP.

Investigating the Impact of Land Use/Land Cover Change on Present and Future Land Surface Temperature (LST) of Chittagong, Bangladesh

Shahriar Abdullah et al.

Summary: Urbanization has a significant impact on microclimate and investigating the relationship between urbanization pattern and land surface temperature (LST) is crucial. The study in Chittagong reveals that built-up areas have the highest temperature while waterbodies have the lowest. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) are negatively correlated with temperature, whereas Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI) and Bare Soil Index (BSI) show positive correlation. The predicted LST indicates that temperature may reach a critical state by 2050 if the current trend of urban growth continues.

How urban sprawl influences eco-environmental quality: Empirical research in China by using the Spatial Durbin model

Danling Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that urban sprawl in China significantly decreases eco-environmental quality, with spillover effects playing a crucial role. There are variations in the impact of urban sprawl on eco-environmental quality across different regions, and factors like population sprawl, socio-economic sprawl, transportation sprawl, and land use sprawl explain the changes to varying degrees. Land use sprawl was found to have the largest effect on eco-environmental quality, followed by socio-economic sprawl, population sprawl, and transportation sprawl during the study period. Active coordination of different types of urban sprawl by the government is recommended to enhance eco-environmental quality in different regions.
