Single adsorption of diclofenac and ronidazole from aqueous solution on commercial activated carbons: effect of chemical and textural properties

Adriana Moral-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: The textural and physicochemical characteristics of commercial activated carbons have a significant impact on their adsorption capacity for ronidazole and diclofenac. Coconut AC and Wood AC exhibit the highest adsorption capacity for RNZ and DCF at pH=7. The adsorption mechanism is mainly driven by π-π stacking interactions, and the presence of acidic sites enhances the adsorption capacity. The adsorption of RNZ on Coconut AC is irreversible, while the adsorption of DCF on Wood AC is reversible.

High Performance of UiO-66 Metal-Organic Framework Modified with Melamine for Uptaking of Lead and Cadmium from Aqueous Solutions

Alaa S. Abdelmoaty et al.

Summary: In this study, UiO-66 metal-organic framework (MOF) was prepared and modified with melamine (MUiO-66) to enhance the adsorption properties in liquid-phase adsorption. The results showed that MUiO-66 had a notable adsorption capacity for Pb and Cd(II) ions, fitting well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir models. Moreover, MUiO-66 exhibited good desorption and reusability characteristics. Therefore, these materials have great importance in the adsorption of heavy metals from wastewater.

Mesoporous Carbon Xerogels Adsorbents for Adsorption of Cadmium and p-Nitrophenol Pollutants: Kinetic and Equilibrium Studies

Ola El-Shafey et al.

Summary: Mesoporous carbon xerogels were synthesized by carbonizing resorcinol-formaldehyde xerogels in the presence of tannic acid. The obtained carbon xerogels showed good adsorption efficiency for cadmium ions and p-nitrophenol from aqueous solutions.

Environmental quality standards for diclofenac derived under the European Water Framework Directive: 1. Aquatic organisms

Dean Leverett et al.

Summary: Diclofenac is a widely detected pharmaceutical substance in European water bodies, with limited veterinary uses in Europe and wastewater being the main exposure pathway. The European Commission prefers a deterministic approach for deriving Environmental Quality Standards, while this paper suggests using an evidence-driven probabilistic approach instead.
