Drinking water aromaticity and treatability is predicted by dissolved organic matter fluorescence

Marc Philibert et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the fluorescence composition of surface waters and predicted aromaticity and treatability using samples from different regions and water treatment plants. Nine fluorescence components were identified and ratios between these components were found to predict chemical properties and water treatment efficacy. These findings have important implications for water treatment applications.

Electrocoagulation-electrooxidation for mitigating trace organic compounds in model drinking water sources

Donald R. Ryan et al.

Summary: In-situ water treatment using sequential EC-EO showed improved removal of TOrCs in model surface waters compared to EO-only treatment due to the removal of DOC by EC. However, in model groundwater, EO-only treatment resulted in higher removal efficiencies for ACY and TMP. Sequential EC-EO also improved energy efficiency for treating model river water.

Treatment of mature landfill leachate by electrocoagulation followed by Fenton or UVA-LED photo-Fenton processes

Javier Tejera et al.

Summary: This study aims to optimize a two-step treatment for mature landfill leachate using electrocoagulation (EC) followed by Fenton or UVA-LED photo-Fenton processes, in order to provide a more efficient and feasible treatment strategy that increases biodegradability and decreases conductivity. The research found that higher EC current density results in higher residual iron concentration, which can reduce treatment time for subsequent Fenton processes. Overall, the total COD removal rate was around 87%, with improvements in SUVA removal, conductivity reduction, and biodegradability.

A systematic diagnosis of state of the art in the use of electrocoagulation as a sustainable technology for pollutant treatment: An updated review

Milad Mousazadeh et al.

Summary: Electrocoagulation (EC) and electrocoagulation-flotation (ECF) technologies are effective in removing a broad range of pollutants in water, with performance influenced by key parameters such as current density, electrode type, and electrolysis time. Recent studies have shown that pollutant removal mechanisms in EC/ECF processes depend on the nature of the pollutant. Further research on innovative cell designs and modeling of EC reactors, along with hybrid technologies for cost-effective energy supply, may lead to new treatment options for wastewater.
