Photosynthesis, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidative responses of Helianthus annuus L. against chromium (VI) accumulation

Dharmendra Kumar et al.

Summary: The study found that the accumulation of Cr(VI) was two to three times higher in roots than in shoots, indicating that the root is the major site of Cr(VI) accumulation. Under Cr(VI) toxicity, photosynthetic pigments, leaf gaseous exchange parameters, and F-v/F-m efficiency worsened. Cr(VI) accumulation intensified lipid peroxidation by triggering the production of MDA and H2O2, but the plant responded effectively by enhancing the coordinated action of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants.
