It is found that there were significant differences in atmospheric circulations between the cold and warm periods in the upper and lower troposphere, with noticeable variations during the transition period. The SSW event in the stratosphere had a strong impact on the temperature and geopotential height over the Ural Mountains area, leading to changes in atmospheric circulations in the troposphere and ultimately causing the transition from cold to warm in East Asia.

Influence of North Atlantic sea surface temperature anomalies on springtime surface air temperature variation over Eurasia in CMIP5 models

Summary: This study investigates the connection of springtime North Atlantic horseshoe-like sea surface temperature anomaly pattern and the Eurasian surface air temperature variation in thirty-two coupled climate models in CMIP5. The models that capture the observed connection can reproduce the observed atmospheric wave train, while those that fail to do so show limitations in simulating the wave train. Models with larger climatological westerly winds over the North Atlantic and Eurasia and lower climatological SST in the tropical northern Atlantic perform better in simulating the observed atmospheric wave train and the spring NAH SST-Eurasian SAT connection.
