Distribution of antibiotics in lake water-groundwater-Sediment system in Chenhu Lake area

Naijin Ma et al.

Summary: Antibiotics pollution in lakes has been widely reported worldwide, but there are limited studies on the distribution of antibiotics in lake water, groundwater, and sediment systems. This study found that the concentration of antibiotics in groundwater decreases with increasing distance from the lake, and during the dry season, most antibiotics showed a significant decline. The distribution of antibiotics varies in different sedimentary environments, with dissolved oxygen and temperature being the main factors influencing their distribution.

Global Supply Chain Drivers of Agricultural Antibiotic Emissions in China

Xuechun Yang et al.

Summary: Antibiotic pollution is a serious issue causing environmental and social problems. China, as the largest producer and user of antibiotics, has a significant amount of antibiotics used in agriculture. This study quantified the agricultural antibiotic emissions in mainland China in 2014 and identified the critical drivers in global supply chains. The findings reveal the unique supply chain drivers for antibiotic emissions and provide insights for policy decisions and international cooperation in controlling China's agricultural antibiotic emissions.

Prevalence and risk assessment of antibiotics in riverine estuarine waters of Larut and Sangga Besar River, Perak

Kyleyoung Low et al.

Summary: Antibiotics released into the environment through human activities were found in Larut River and Sangga Besar River, posing potential risks to the riverine estuarine ecosystem. Fluoroquinolones and macrolides were the most frequently detected antibiotic residues, with some posing high risks to algae.

Effects of wastewater treatment and manure application on the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance around swine feedlots

Chong Liu et al.

Summary: China, as the world's largest swine producer and consumer, faces significant environmental risks from the use of veterinary antibiotics. Measures such as wastewater treatment and manure application may not effectively control antibiotic pollution. A study on 10 swine farms in China found that factors like heavy metals could worsen antimicrobial resistance.

Performance and mechanism in degradation of typical antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes by magnetic resin-mediated UV-Fenton process

Jie Zhong et al.

Summary: Incomplete removal of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater treatment plants has been a common issue. By using magnetic anion exchange resin as UV-Fenton catalyst, antibiotics and ARGs can be effectively degraded with hydroxide as the dominant reactive radical. The MAER-mediated UV-Fenton reaction shows potential for efficient removal of antibiotics and ARGs in wastewater treatment.

A systematic review on antibiotics misuse in livestock and aquaculture and regulation implications in China

Yitian Shao et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the current situation of antibiotic misuse in livestock farming and aquaculture in China, proposing regulatory measures for the central government to address the issue. Recommendations include strictly implementing relevant laws and regulations, developing specific supporting measures, encouraging antibiotic substitutes research, and enhancing public awareness of rational antibiotic use to promote the regulation of antibiotic abuse.

Risks, characteristics, and control strategies of disinfection-residual-bacteria (DRB) from the perspective of microbial community structure

Hao-Bin Wang et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought attention to biosafety, with disinfection processes leading to a selection effect on bacteria and causing disinfection-residual-bacteria (DRB) issues. Typical DRB after disinfection by chlorine-containing disinfectants, ozone disinfection, and ultraviolet disinfection have been identified and summarized, some of which pose potential risks.

Fish farm effluents as a source of antibiotic resistance gene dissemination on Jeju Island, South Korea

Hyejun Jo et al.

Summary: The abuse or misuse of antibiotics is directly linked to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes in the environment. Fish farm effluents contain higher levels of ARGs than seawater, with ARGs mainly found on plasmids. The microbial community differs between summer and winter, and fish farm samples contain more opportunistic pathogens and virulence factors.

Hongrun Ju et al.

Summary: The study investigated the spatiotemporal pattern of ecological risk in coastal areas, focusing on the Shandong Peninsula, and determined the optimal assessment scale using semivariogram analysis. Results showed low ecological risk with specific aggregation patterns. Protecting cropland is crucial for food safety and ecosystem stability in the region.

Investigating antibiotics, antibiotic resistance genes in soil, groundwater and vegetables in relation to agricultural field-Applicated with lincomycin mycelial residues compost

Mengmeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that composting with lincomycin mycelial residue can improve soil fertility, increase organic matter, total nitrogen, and available P/K. Enzyme activities in the soil were enhanced, microbial community composition showed temporary shifts, and low application rates had no significant impact on ARGs in soil, vegetables, and groundwater.

Effect of Immune Cell Infiltration on Occurrence of Pulmonary Hypertension in Pulmonary Fibrosis Patients Based on Gene Expression Profiles

Feng Zhu et al.

Summary: This study revealed that immune cell infiltration in patients with pulmonary fibrosis is associated with the development of pulmonary hypertension, with four types of immune cells (naive B cells, plasma cells, activated dendritic cells, and M2 macrophages) showing abnormal proportions in PH patients compared to non-PH patients. These immune cells play a role in the development of pulmonary hypertension.
