Surfactant-assisted synthesis of NiCo2O4/NiO nanocomposite by facile atmospheric pressure microplasma electrochemical process with photocatalytic applications

Summary: NiCo2O4/NiO nanocomposites were synthesized via atmospheric pressure microplasma electrochemical method, and the influence of surfactants on the morphology and properties of the nanostructures was studied. Different morphologies like nanorods, nanowires, and nanoflowers were obtained from SEM analysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the structural properties and crystallite size dependence on surfactants used. Photoluminescence study showed band edge emission and additional visible region emission due to defects, while Raman and FTIR spectroscopy were used to examine the functional characteristics of the nanostructures. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity of these nanostructures in Rhodamine B dye solution under sunlight was investigated, showing effective decolorization with both visible light and photocatalyst.

Enhanced photo-Fenton activity over a sunlight-driven ignition synthesized α-Fe2O3-Fe3O4/CeO2 heterojunction catalyst enriched with oxygen vacancies

Summary: The synthesis of ternary alpha-Fe2O3-Fe3O4/CeO2 nanocomposite using a sunlight-driven ignition method allows for the introduction of oxygen vacancies on its surface, facilitating multiple degradation mechanisms. This heterojunction catalyst exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity in degrading organic dyes, attributed to improved charge separation through oxygen vacancies. The presence of oxygen vacancies also promotes the photo-Fenton catalytic process, enhancing the degradation of methylene blue dye.
