Urinary glyphosate concentration in pregnant women in relation to length of gestation

Corina Lesseur et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between prenatal glyphosate exposure and length of gestation, finding that maternal glyphosate and AMPA exposure were associated with shortened gestational length only among spontaneous deliveries. The results suggest widespread exposure to glyphosate in the general population, potentially impacting reproductive health. Larger confirmatory studies are needed to further investigate the effects, especially in vulnerable populations like pregnant women and newborns.

The association between urinary glyphosate and aminomethyl phosphonic acid with biomarkers of oxidative stress among pregnant women in the PROTECT birth cohort study

Jarrod L. Eaton et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of glyphosate and its primary environmental degradate, AMPA, on oxidative stress in pregnant women. It found that an increase in urinary AMPA concentration was associated with higher levels of certain oxidative stress biomarkers, while the association with glyphosate was weaker.

Characterization of glyphosate and AMPA concentrations in the urine of Australian and New Zealand populations

Garth Campbell et al.

Summary: This study analyzed urine samples from the Australia and New Zealand region and obtained data on the concentrations of glyphosate and its degradation product aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA). The results showed that glyphosate was detected in 8% of the urine samples from the Australian general population and in 96% of urine samples from New Zealand farmers. This indicates a widespread presence of glyphosate in the population, with higher detections among farmers.

Human experimental exposure to glyphosate and biomonitoring of young Swedish adults

Summary: The study shows that the excretion of GLY in urine follows first-order kinetics and a two-phase excretion. Unchanged GLY is a more suitable biomarker of exposure. In young adults, there is a moderate correlation between GLY and AMPA concentrations.

Summary: The study analyzed glyphosate exposure among German children and adolescents, finding that most samples had glyphosate concentrations above the limit of quantification, but overall exposure levels were low. No clear association was identified between exposure and vegetarian diet or consumption of cereals, pulses, or vegetables.

Summary: The concern surrounding glyphosate (GLYP) has increased in recent years, with the availability of genetically modified crops leading to increased use of herbicides. Research on the carcinogenicity of GLYP has sparked interest in understanding the population's exposure levels. A developed method in the study can monitor human exposure to GLYP and glufosinate (GLUF) using a pentafluorobenzyl derivative for extraction from human urine.

Summary: High maternal urinary levels of Glyphosate were associated with longer anoclitoral distance (AGD-AC) in female infants, while increased levels of AMPA were associated with longer anofourchette distance (AGD-AF). No significant associations were found in male infants.

Glyphosate Herbicide: Reproductive Outcomes and Multigenerational Effects

Summary: Glyphosate base herbicides (GBHs) are widely used pesticides in association with GBH-tolerant crop varieties. Their indiscriminate use has led to the emergence of glyphosate resistant weeds and increased herbicide usage. The safety of glyphosate and its formulations remains controversial, with growing evidence suggesting potential adverse effects.
