Cancer Incidence, Mortality, Years of Life Lost, Years Lived With Disability, and Disability-Adjusted Life Years for 29 Cancer Groups From 2010 to 2019 A Systematic Analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Jonathan M. Kocarnik et al.

Summary: The global burden of cancer is substantial and growing, with differences in burden based on Sociodemographic Index (SDI). The largest percentage increase in the numbers of cases and deaths occurred in the low and low-middle SDI quintiles from 2010 to 2019.

Traffic-related Air Pollution and Lung Cancer Incidence The California Multiethnic Cohort Study

Iona Cheng et al.

Summary: The study found a positive association between traffic-related air pollution and lung cancer risk in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse populations, mainly among African American and Latino American groups. Residents in low socioeconomic status neighborhoods had an increased risk of lung cancer associated with nitrogen oxides, while no association was observed among those in high socioeconomic status neighborhoods.

Investigating Causal Associations of Circulating Micronutrients Concentrations with the Risk of Lung Cancer: A Mendelian Randomization Study

Haihao Yan et al.

Summary: This study conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to investigate the causal relationship between diet-derived circulating micronutrient concentrations and lung cancer risk. The results showed that increased levels of beta-carotene, calcium, retinol, and zinc may reduce the risk of lung cancer, while increased levels of copper and phosphorus may be associated with an increased risk. Further research with larger samples is needed to confirm these findings.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Ambient Cumulative PM2.5 Exposure and the Risk of Lung Cancer Incidence and Mortality: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Hung-Ling Huang et al.

Summary: This study found that for never smokers, the risk of developing lung cancer (LC) and dying from LC-related causes significantly increases with every 10 mu g/m(3) increment of PM2.5 exposure. However, daily consumption of more than two servings of vegetables and fruits is associated with lowering LC risk in smokers, and reducing PM2.5 exposure is associated with lowering LC risk for never smokers.
