Antibiotic resistance among Escherichia coli and Salmonella isolated from dairy cattle feces in Texas

Rosine Manishimwe et al.

Summary: In developing countries, limited resources in laboratories have hindered studies on antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from food animals. This study successfully developed a low-cost protocol to estimate the prevalence of resistance to important antibiotics among Escherichia coli and Salmonella isolated from dairy cattle feces. The results revealed a high prevalence of antibiotic resistance among E. coli and Salmonella isolates, with genotypic profiles validating the phenotypic profiles detected.
