Characterization of anthropogenic organic matter and its interaction with direct yellow 27 in wastewater: Experimental results and perspectives of resource recovery

Sicong Yao et al.

Summary: The concept of natural organic matter of anthropogenic origin is introduced, and its characteristics and interaction with chemical pollutants are investigated using various analytic methodologies. The results indicate that the presence of AOM can significantly influence the fate, transport, and toxicity of pollutants in the environment.

Synthesis and performance evaluation of a magnetic biocoagulant in the removal of reactive black 5 dye in aqueous medium

Carolina Sayury Miyashiro et al.

Summary: A biocoagulant synthesized from iron oxide nanoparticles and Moringa oleifera Lam extract was tested for removal of colour and dye concentration in synthetic textile wastewater, achieving removal rates of 93.7% for colour and 96.2% for dye after 20 minutes of magnetic sedimentation. Reuse tests showed the biocoagulant and resulting sludge could be used for three consecutive cycles with minimal reduction in efficiency.

Supramolecular aggregation of colloidal natural organic matter masks priority pollutants released in water from peat soil

Ludovico Pontoni et al.

Summary: Natural organic matter (NOM) extracted from Sphagnum peat soil self-organizes into colloidal aggregates of variable sizes in water, stabilized by the exposure of polar functional groups to solvent, forming hydrogen bonds and dipole interactions. The inner part of the aggregates displays hydrophobic features and is further reinforced by p-stacking interactions.
