Inhalation bioaccessibility of multi-class organic pollutants associated to atmospheric PM2.5: Correlation with PM2.5 properties and health risk assessment

Joel Sanchez-Pinero et al.

Summary: Inhalation exposure to PM2.5 has adverse effects on human health. The bioaccessibility of organic pollutants in PM2.5 samples was evaluated, and correlations between PM2.5 composition and bioaccessibility were analyzed. The health risk assessment of target PAHs indicated that the average human health risks were within safe levels.

Occurrence and exposure risk assessment of phthalate esters in edible plant oils with a high-frequency import rate in west China

Zhentao Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence and risk assessment of phthalate esters (PAEs) in imported plant oils in western China. The results showed that PAEs were ubiquitous contaminants in these oils, with potential health risks.

Neurotoxicity of Ortho-Phthalates: Recommendations for Critical Policy Reforms to Protect Brain Development in Children

Stephanie M. Engel et al.

Summary: Robust data from longitudinal birth cohort studies and experimental studies suggest that exposure to ortho-phthalates can impair brain development and increase risks for learning, attention, and behavioral disorders in childhood. Immediate policy reforms are needed to eliminate ortho-phthalates from products and reduce exposures, with specific attention to socially vulnerable populations. Multi-pronged regulatory approaches at federal and state levels are necessary for the feasible goal of eliminating ortho-phthalates.

Effect of Soil Properties and Aging Time on Oral and Inhalation Bioaccessibility of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles in Soils

Shiwei Li et al.

Summary: This study found differences in bioaccessibility of CuO NPs in oral and inhalation pathways, with limited impact from aging time. Soil properties were found to have certain correlations with the bioaccessibility of CuO NPs.

Inhalation bioacessibility and absorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in indoor PM2.5 and its implication in risk assessment

Kesong Luo et al.

Summary: The inhalation bioavailability of PAHs in indoor PM2.5 samples from Guangzhou, China was analyzed in this study, with higher bioaccessibility observed under inflammatory conditions. Lung cell absorption experiments showed an inverse relationship between PAH absorption rate and the number of aromatic rings.
