Evaluation of the CALPUFF model performance for the estimation of the urban ecosystem CO2 flux

Yaroslav Bezyk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of land conversion on soil CO2 fluxes in temperate re-established grasslands within an anthropogenic landform in a Forest Botanical Garden. The results of the CALPUFF model simulations showed promising agreement with tracer measurements of biogenic CO2, but tended to underestimate real concentration levels. The study also emphasized the sensitivity of the CALPUFF model's performance in simulating CO2 concentrations within urban ecosystems to various meteorological and environmental factors.

Application of Improved CFD Modeling for Prediction and Mitigation of Traffic-Related Air Pollution Hotspots in a Realistic Urban Street

Tom Lauriks et al.

Summary: Accurate prediction of urban air pollutant dispersion is crucial for safety, public health, and environment. This study in Antwerp, Belgium analyzes pollutants using computational fluid dynamics, models traffic emissions, and suggests local mitigation measures. Results show effective pollutant removal methods and improvements in atmospheric boundary layer dispersion modeling.

CFD analysis of the influence of a perimeter wall on the natural gas dispersion from an LNG pool

Marco Bellegoni et al.

Summary: An innovative tool was developed to simulate gas dispersion from liquefied natural gas pools in the presence of obstacles, systematically evaluating the influence of atmospheric stability conditions and source term variation on congested dispersion scenarios through a combination of integral models and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Results showed good agreement between CFD and integral models in an open field configuration, but with an overprediction of methane concentration by the integral model. Additionally, CFD enabled a precise analysis of flow-field and investigation of wall effects on methane concentration in the presence of obstacles.

Integrated impacts of building height and upstream building on pedestrian comfort around ideal lift-up buildings in a weak wind environment

Lan Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the integrated effects of building height and upstream building on pedestrian comfort around lift-up buildings, showing that increasing building height, removing upstream buildings, and adjusting relative positions can improve wind comfort but the effects on thermal comfort vary seasonally. The findings provide inspiration for city planners to improve pedestrian comfort in high-density cities.
