Fundamentals, synthesis, characterization and environmental applications of layered double hydroxides: a review

Prabagar Samuel Jijoe et al.

Summary: Layered double hydroxides, as anionic clays, are highly stable, safe and recyclable materials that can be engineered as adsorbents or catalysts, filled with nanomaterials to form composites of enhanced performance. These composites exhibit competitive advantages in terms of low cost, tunable band-gaps and high electrical conductivity in applications such as energy storage, water treatment and organic pollutant degradation.

Understanding the physicochemical properties of Zn-Fe LDH nanostructure as sorbent material for removing of anionic and cationic dyes mixture

Rehab K. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: In this study, the removal of cationic and anionic dyes from water was investigated experimentally and computationally. The adsorbent Zn-Fe LDH showed selectivity towards anionic dye, with higher adsorption capacity for methyl orange compared to cationic dyes. Monte Carlo simulations helped understand the adsorption mechanism and calculate adsorption energies, indicating that Zn-Fe LDH selectively adsorbed the dyes in a specific order.
