An examination of creep failure criterion based on a strain threshold identified with a power law model

Gang Bi et al.

Summary: This paper studied the debate on whether creep failure is induced by a stress threshold or a strain threshold using a power law model and a normalization curve. The analysis showed that creep failure is based on a critical strain, the time to creep failure is influenced by stress level and creep exponent, and stress thresholds can be converted from strain thresholds for different times given to the creep failure. Creep behavior of various materials can be compared using the normalization curve and power law model.

The Influence of Water Content on the Time-Dependent Mechanical Behavior of Argillaceous Siltstone

Hanxiang Lin et al.

Summary: An accurate understanding of how water affects time-dependent deformation in rocks is crucial for assessing the long-term stability of geotechnical projects. Triaxial compression rheological tests were conducted to investigate the effects of water content and stress level on creep strain, creep rate, long-term strength, and creep failure mode. The experiments revealed that increases in water content and stress level gradually activate the time-dependent characteristics of rocks. Water content and stress level significantly increase instantaneous strain, creep strain, and steady creep strain rate, but decrease the time to dilatancy and the time to failure.

Estimating the long-term strength and time-to-failure of brittle rocks from laboratory testing

James C. Innocente et al.

Summary: This paper critically reviews and analyzes time-to-failure data for brittle rocks, proposing a sample-specific ultimate strength calculation method based on crack-initiation stress thresholds, and exploring a modified exponential function as an alternative approach. Additionally, the impact of plot orientation and subsequent error calculation is discussed.

The influence of immersed water level on the short- and long-term mechanical behavior of sandstone

Peizhao Chen et al.

Summary: Water significantly affects the mechanical behavior of rocks, resulting in a decrease in uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of specimens. Partially presoaked specimens exhibit a two-stage linear decrease, while completely presoaked specimens show an exponential decrease. Completely presoaked specimens exhibit mixed splitting-shear failure, while partially presoaked specimens mainly exhibit splitting failure.

The influence of long-time water intrusion on the mineral and pore structure of coal

Leilei Si et al.

Summary: Intrusion of formation water into coal seams reduces gas extraction efficiency. Experiments showed decreased mineral content and changed pore structure in coal due to water intrusion. Factors such as clay mineral collapse, mineral dissolution, and coal swelling play significant roles in influencing the pore structure of coal during water intrusion.

Creep Parameter Inversion and Long-Term Stability Analysis of Tunnel Based on GP-DE Intelligent Algorithm

Fengrui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the creep laws of rock and established a model to describe the creep characteristics of the Banshi Tunnel in Jilin province. By proposing an intelligent inversion method, the creep parameters of the tunnel were accurately determined, leading to stability analysis and selection of a construction plan. The research results provide guidance for the long-term stability evaluation of the tunnel.
