Response of the nuclear xenobiotic receptors to alleviate glyphosate-based herbicide-induced nephrotoxicity in weaned piglets

Shengnan Qiu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of glyphosate-based herbicides on piglet kidneys, finding that high doses of GLP caused slight kidney damage. Roundup(R) decreased catalase activity and increased superoxide dismutase activity, while also raising Cys-C and NGAL levels in plasma. The mRNA expression of certain xenobiotic receptors was significantly increased, indicating a potential defense mechanism against GBHs.

Effects of the maternal gut microbiome and gut-placental axis on melatonin efficacy in alleviating cadmium-induced fetal growth restriction

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the protective effect of melatonin against cadmium-induced fetal growth restriction (FGR) and analyze its mechanism through modulation of the gut microbiota. The results showed that melatonin relieved placental barrier injury, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), and mitophagy, and reversed gut microbiota dysbiosis. The gut microbiota played an important role in cadmium-induced placental injury, ERS, and mitophagy.

Summary: Anhydrous betaine showed better effects than hydrochloride betaine in improving growth performance and breast muscle yield of broilers. Moreover, anhydrous betaine (1,000 mg/kg) or equimolar hydrochloride betaine supplementation could improve meat quality by decreasing drip loss, free water proportion, and lactate content, and enhancing muscle antioxidant capacity.

The heart as a target for deltamethrin toxicity: Inhibition of Nrf2/HO-1 pathway induces oxidative stress and results in inflammation and apoptosis

Xue Yang et al.

Summary: As a synthetic pyrethroid pesticide, deltamethrin (DLM) is widely used in veterinary medicine and farming. DLM-induced oxidative stress causes harm to organisms. The purpose of this research was to study the impact and molecular mechanism of DLM on inflammation and apoptosis in quail cardiomyocytes through the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. The results showed that DLM induced dose-dependent cardiomyocyte injury by weakening antioxidant defense through down-regulating Nrf2 and HO-1. Furthermore, DLM stimulation induced apoptosis in quail heart and increased inflammation markers.

A Glyphosate-Based Formulation but Not Glyphosate Alone Alters Human Placental Integrity

Christelle Simasotchi et al.

Summary: Glyphosate-based herbicidal formulations, such as Roundup, consist of glyphosate as the active principle and other undisclosed formulants. Studies show that these formulants are more toxic than glyphosate, affecting placental permeability and fetal blood flow. Formulants may disrupt fetal-placental circulation and integrity, potentially leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes.
