Design and experimental study of hot rolled shape steel-ultrahigh performance concrete composite beam

Xudong Shao et al.

Summary: A novel lightweight, high-strength, and economical HRSS-UHPC composite beam is proposed for short- and medium-span composite bridges. Experimental and theoretical investigations demonstrate that the bending and shear resistances of the composite beam meet the design requirements. The influence of shear-to-span ratio on the behavior of the composite beam is revealed.

Shear Behavior of Ultrahigh-Performance Concrete Pretensioned Bridge Girders

Rafic G. El-Helou et al.

Summary: Due to their strain-hardening characteristics, ultrahigh-performance concrete (UHPC) materials have significant advantages in terms of beam shear capacity and postcracking behavior compared to conventional reinforced-concrete beams. Experimental investigation on prestressed UHPC bridge girders reveals that the shear behavior and capacities are largely dependent on the tensile characteristics of UHPC. These results demonstrate UHPC's capability to sustain its strain-hardening characteristics at the structural scale and highlight the importance of crack localization strain for the global shear performance of UHPC girders.

DIC-based failure analysis of high-strength continuous steel shear dowels for composite UHPFRC steel construction

Peter Harsanyi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the behavior of composite dowels made from S460ML high-strength steel in combination with UHPFRC, with variations in parameters to achieve semi-ductile behavior. Yielding due to steel shear-bending occurred between 60 and 90% of the average maximum load, demonstrating full utilization of the composite dowels.

A Novel Shear Strength Prediction Approach for Headed Shear Studs Embedded in Ultrahigh-Performance Concrete

Yuqing Hu et al.

Summary: This study discusses the mechanism behind the increase in shear strength of stud-UHPC composite connections, developing a concrete wedge block model to explain the enhancement. The proposed shear strength prediction formula showed a deviation within 25% from experimental results, indicating its effectiveness in predicting shear strength.

Static and fatigue behavior of shear stud connection embedded in UHPC

Yang Huang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the shear connection of short headed studs in UHPC-steel composite bridge deck, establishing a refined finite element model for push-out specimen and proposing shear strength formula and load-slip relationship for short headed studs embedded in UHPC. A fatigue strength evaluation formula for studs in UHPC under multiple factors is developed, along with a recommended formula for fatigue strength of studs in UHPC based on comparative analysis with existing codified formulas for ordinary concrete.
