Study on the failure mechanism of geopolymeric recycled concrete using digital image correlation method

Zhuo Tang et al.

Summary: The study conducted experimental investigations to understand the failure mechanism of geopolymeric recycled aggregate concrete (GRAC) under compression, showing that the replacement of recycled aggregate adversely affected the mechanical properties of concrete, with cracks mainly initiating near the interfacial transition zones and passing through the recycled aggregate particles. The strain concentration region detected by the DIC method was closely consistent with the formation of macro cracks.

Mesoscale modelling of size effect on the evolution of fracture process zone in concrete

Rongxin Zhou et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the concrete fracture process zone tends to exhibit a main crack and multiple secondary microcracks, with the irregular evolution path attributed to the random spatial distribution of aggregate particles and weak ITZ. The size effect has little impact on the width of the FPZ, but the length is strongly dependent on the beam size, and these characteristics are considered intrinsic reasons for the overall size effect phenomenon in concrete structures.

Compression and Strain Predictive Models in Non-Structural Recycled Concretes Made from Construction and Demolition Wastes

Evelio Teijon-Lopez-Zuazo et al.

Summary: This study investigates different predictive models for estimating the unconfined compressive strength and maximum peak strain of non-structural recycled concretes. The results show that it is possible to accurately estimate the properties of different types of recycled concretes, confirming the impact of ceramic waste on performance.
