Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: A nanosecond pulsed spark discharge technique was developed for sustainable nitrogen fixation. Through experiments and modeling, it was found that chain reactions between O and N radicals and vibrationally excited N-2 and O-2 molecules are the key pathways for NOx formation. These findings provide new insights into sustainable and decentralized NOx production.

Dry reforming of methane by microsecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge plasma: Optimizing the reactor structures

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of reactor structures on the plasma-assisted dry reforming of CH4 process and finds that a multi-stage or foil external electrode and negative polar discharge can promote the conversions of reactants and the yields of syngas. The results show that lower power input and heat insulation measures can lead to higher conversions, yields, and energy conversion efficiencies. Additionally, packing materials into the reactor can further promote the conversion of CH4, but has limited effect on the conversion of CO2.

CH4 reforming with CO2 using a nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge plasma

Danhua Mei et al.

Summary: The reforming of CH4 with CO2 using nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma shows promising results in enhancing gas conversion, but at the expense of energy efficiency. Increasing applied voltage and discharge length can enhance gas conversion, but decrease energy efficiency.

Impact of post-flame processes on the hydrogen yield in partial oxidation of methane in the matrix reformer

V. Savchenko et al.

Summary: Non-catalytic partial oxidation of methane in matrix reformers offers the possibility of producing hydrogen directly at sites of its consumption. The process consists of two stages: flame zone and post-flame zone. Research shows that the steam reforming of methane pyrolysis products occurs faster than the direct interaction of methane with water, highlighting the need to optimize conditions in the post-flame zone to increase hydrogen yield.

Control of methane plasma oxidative pathways by altering the contribution of oxygen species

Junshuang Zhou et al.

Summary: By altering the contribution of oxygen species, the three methane plasma oxidative pathways can be strengthened. The reaction of O(D-1) + CH4 -> OH + CH3 plays a key role in plasma promoted methane conversion, while the ground state of O leads to synthesis gas production through the reaction with CH3 and CH2. This discovery may provide insight into methane plasma oxidation and combustion chemistry.
