Thermodynamic analysis of oxy-fuel combustion integrated with the sCO2 Brayton cycle for combined heat and power production

Shiyi Chen et al.

Summary: The supercritical CO2 (sCO(2)) Brayton cycle is efficient and compact, expected to replace the steam Rankine cycle in various applications. Integrating sCO(2) cycle with single-stage reheating and recompression with pulverized coal oxy-fuel combustion process has been shown to increase total efficiency, with wet mode showing higher efficiency under basic sCO(2) cycle conditions.

Summary: A new cogeneration hybrid cycle system is introduced in this paper, which can simultaneously provide electricity and urea production. Through energy, economic, exergy, exergoenvironmental, and environmental analyses, the system is found to produce 689 GW h electrical energy and 1.323 million tons of urea annually with high energy and exergy efficiencies.

Techno-economic analysis of supercritical carbon dioxide cycle integrated with coal-fired power plant

Dhinesh Thanganadar et al.

Summary: This study analyzed four novel sCO(2) cycle configurations to efficiently capture low-temperature heat and evaluated their performance against the steam Rankine cycle. While increasing turbine inlet temperature improved cycle efficiency, the cost increase did not significantly reduce cost of electricity (COE). Sensitivity analysis and Monte Carlo analysis indicated that COE of sCO(2) cycle could be reduced by 6-8%, but uncertainty in cost functions may limit this reduction to 0-3% at 95% percentile cumulative probability.
