Role of coal deformation energy in coal and gas outburst: A review

Chenghao Wang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically reviews the importance of coal deformation energy and gas expansion energy in coal and gas outbursts. It highlights that most literature related to outburst energy overlooks the contribution of coal deformation energy. Experimental results show that the deformation energy of high outburst risk tectonic coal has a power function relationship with stress, and its releasing mode differs from intact coal. The coal deformation energy is proved to have the same order of magnitude with gas expansion energy.

Shale gas transport through the inorganic cylindrical and conical nanopores: A density gradient driven molecular dynamics

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates methane transport behavior through cylindrical and conical inorganic nanopores using density gradient-driven molecular dynamics, revealing the significant impact of aperture variation on methane permeability. Different flow behaviors of methane molecules are observed in nanopores with different shapes.

Threshold pressure gradient for helium seepage in coal and its application to equivalent seepage channel characterization

Chenghao Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals the threshold pressure gradient and low-velocity nonlinear seepage phenomenon in coal seam. A capillary seepage model is established to characterize the equivalent seepage channel size distribution of coal, which is found to follow a fractal distribution. Fractal dimensions decrease significantly with increasing effective stress, with critical conditions transitioning from seepage to diffusion.
