Effects of pin fins and vortex generators on thermal performance in a microchannel with Al2O3 nanofluids

Summary: This paper presents a comparative analysis of pin fins and vortex generators to determine their optimal cross-section shape and parameters. A novel combined structure is proposed to enhance the thermal performance of an integrated microchannel heat sink. The effects of nanoparticle diameter and volume fraction are investigated using Al2O3 nanofluid and DI-water. The results show that oval pin fins and the optimal vortex generator significantly improve the heat transfer and hydraulic performance of the heat sink.
