Heat transfer characteristics and compatibility of molten salt/ceramic porous composite phase change material

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite phase change material (PCM) was developed by combining porous silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic with solar salt for enhanced heat transfer and corrosion resistance in molten salts. The composite PCM showed a more uniform temperature distribution and increased overall phase change rate. The SiC ceramics demonstrated excellent corrosion resistance compared to commonly used thermal promoters. The composite PCM has the potential for large-scale applications due to its simple preparation, low cost, and easy maintenance.

Melting and thermodynamic properties of nanoscale binary chloride salt as high-temperature energy storage material

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study calculated the melting point of binary chloride salts using the molecular dynamics method, providing important fundamental thermal information for phase change heat transfer research. The study revealed the mechanism of lower melting points in small nanoclusters, where ions vibrate more intensely and crystal structures are more easily destroyed. The ion self-diffusion coefficient was also analyzed and found to not be significantly affected by the component and size of nanoclusters.

A review of phase change heat transfer in shape-stabilized phase change materials (ss-PCMs) based on porous supports for thermal energy storage

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) using phase change materials (PCMs) is effective in addressing energy supply-demand mismatch, but faces challenges of low thermal conductivity and leakage. Integrating porous supports and PCMs to fabricate shape-stabilized phase change materials (ss-PCMs) is one solution, with research on phase change heat transfer in porous ss-PCMs being crucial for system performance evaluation. Research gaps exist between phase change heat transfer and material preparation, and future studies should focus on numerical advancements and experimental investigations in this area.

Interfacial heat transfer in metal foam porous media (MFPM) under steady thermal conduction condition and extension of Lemlich foam conductivity theory

Yuanpeng Yao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the interfacial heat transfer characteristics in metal foam porous media (MFPM) under steady thermal conduction condition, revealing significant local interfacial heat conduction but negligibly small net total interfacial conductive heat transfer unaffected by the thermal conductivity discrepancy. The study extended the Lemlich foam conductivity theory to predict the effective thermal conductivity of MFPM, which improved prediction accuracy and maintained a simple and elegant form. This work corrects previous misconceptions and provides crucial clues for more efficient ETC models of MFPM.
