Energy and exergy analyses of bio-jet fuel production from full components in lignocellulosic biomass via aqueous-phase conversion

Qiongyin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates novel processes to produce aviation ranged hydrocarbons by utilizing lignin combined with cellulose and hemicellulose. Through energy and exergy analyses, it is found that lignin to bio-jet fuel has the highest yield and efficiency, while hydrolyzing lignin to hydrogen before converting it to bio-jet fuel can improve the conversion efficiency of biogenic carbon.

Single-step catalytic deoxygenation of palm feedstocks for the production of sustainable bio-jet fuel

Elaine Siew Kuan Why et al.

Summary: The study focused on producing bio-jet fuel from different types of palm oil through deoxygenation process using various catalysts. The results showed that Pd/C catalyst at 8 wt% had the best deoxygenation efficiency. The physicochemical properties of the produced liquid fuel met the standard Jet A-1 fuel requirements.

Energy and exergy analysis of bio-jet fuel production from lignocellulosic biomass via aqueous conversion

Jingwen Hao et al.

Summary: The study proposed an aqueous conversion process utilizing part of lignin to generate hydrogen, which significantly increased energy and exergy efficiencies compared to the traditional process of burning all lignin as fuel. Additionally, improving the recovery rate of methanol and reducing the consumption of acid and base chemicals can enhance the cumulative exergy efficiency and renewability of bio-jet fuel production. Sensitivity analyses showed that the conversion efficiency of platform chemicals to bio-jet fuel and the consumption of stripping steam have a significant impact on energy and exergy efficiencies.
