Reactive force field (ReaxFF) molecular dynamics investigation of bituminous coal combustion under oxygen-deficient conditions

Yang Xiao et al.

Summary: The study found that in coal combustion, the ether bond is the most active functional group, the hydroxyl groups are dehydrogenated to form carbon oxides or water, and the carbonyl groups are more stable.

Insight into the calcium carboxylate release behavior during Zhundong coal pyrolysis and combustion

Dikun Hong et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic behavior of calcium carboxylate release during Zhundong coal pyrolysis and combustion using ReaxFF MD simulation. The results show that most of the calcium is released into the volatiles during pyrolysis, with thermal cracking of tar fragments significant at high temperatures leading to the conversion of calcium from tar into the organic gas.

ReaxFF study on combustion mechanism of ethanol/nitromethane

Liang Song et al.

Summary: Reactive molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the high-temperature oxidation of ethanol/nitromethane fuel, revealing that the C-N bond cleavage of nitromethane and dehydrogenation of ethanol are the dominant pathways. Active species such as NO2, NO, and OH significantly influence the oxidation mechanism of ethanol.

ReaxFF simulations of the synergistic effect mechanisms during co-pyrolysis of coal and polyethylene/polystyrene

Dikun Hong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the co-pyrolysis behaviors of Zhundong coal with polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) using reactive molecular dynamics simulation. The results show that coal promotes primary decomposition of PE at low temperatures but has little effect on PE pyrolysis at high temperatures. Meanwhile, PE and PS significantly promote coal char decomposition at high temperatures, with polystyrene having a more pronounced effect than polyethylene.

Kinetic characteristics and reactive behaviors of HSW vitrinite coal pyrolysis: A comprehensive analysis based on TG-MS experiments, kinetics models and ReaxFF MD simulations

Hongcun Bai et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively analyzed the pyrolysis of HSW vitrinite coal using experiments, kinetics models, and molecular simulations. The results showed that the weight loss rate decreased with higher heating rates, and higher heating rates delayed the release of pyrolysis gas. The analysis of kinetic parameters indicated an increase in activation energy with pyrolysis stage and carbon conversion rate.

Chemical Effect of CH4 on NH3 Combustion in an O2/N2 Environment Via ReaxFF

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study used the ReaxFF-MD method to explore the impact of NH3 and CH4 mixed combustion, finding that ammonia combustion and methane combustion are not competitive reactions. Adding methane affects the consumption rate of ammonia and the intensity of the reaction, as well as the quantitative changes before and after the reaction under different O2 concentrations are concretely reflected.

Construction of a coal char model and its combustion and gasification characteristics: Molecular dynamic simulations based on ReaxFF

Dikun Hong et al.

Summary: An atomistic coal char representation was constructed via ReaxFF MD simulation, investigating the combustion and gasification characteristics of the char. The activation energies obtained for various reactions were in good agreement with experimental data, revealing the generation of large amounts of C2 species during char-H2O gasification.
