Artificial Intelligence Approach in Gasification Integrated Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cycle

Senem Sezer et al.

Summary: With the growing population and industrial developments, the supply of energy from a feasible and widely available source is important. Biomass gasification is a promising technology that produces lower emissions and allows efficient conversion. The gas obtained from the gasification process, especially in steam gasification, consists of a considerable amount of H-2 and is used in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) to generate electricity. However, further research is needed to achieve high energy efficiency in integrated gasification-SOFC systems.

Jude A. Okolie et al.

Summary: Waste biomass can be converted to green fuels and value-added products through thermochemical and biological conversion processes. Integrating thermochemical and biological processes enhances resource utilization and promotes a circular economy. Thermochemical processes have limitations in high processing costs, while biological processes face challenges of low product yield and long processing time.

Poultry litter valorization by application of hydrothermal gasification: Process simulation, Economic, Energic, and Environmental analysis

Yousaf Ayub et al.

Summary: This research study developed a process simulation model of hydrothermal gasification (HTG) for converting poultry litter into value-added products. The effects of temperature, pressure, and biomass concentration on the quality of syngas and net heat steam were analyzed. The model showed better results at specific conditions, with a higher yield of hydrogen and methane gas and superior lower heating value. The HTG method was also found to be cost-effective, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly compared to direct land disposal.

Reza Jahromi et al.

Summary: A CFD model was developed for biomass gasification in a downdraft fixed-bed gasifier, with sugarcane bagasse used as feedstock. The study identified optimal operating conditions, such as S/A ratio of 0.67 and inlet velocity of 20 m/s, to maximize syngas yield and conversion efficiency, while increasing preheating temperature of air/steam and decreasing biomass moisture content had positive impacts on the gasification process. Maximum conversion efficiency reached 69.14% under the optimum conditions.

Qi Dang et al.

Summary: This work presents a robust method for predicting and optimizing syngas production through the development of a kinetic-based biomass gasification process model. Sensitivity and multivariable analyses were conducted to determine key parameters affecting syngas yield, leading to the establishment of a surrogate model for predicting optimal syngas yields under different operating conditions. The global optimization model demonstrated a maximum syngas yield of 78.6 vol% under specific temperature, ER, S/B ratio, and MC conditions.
