Carbon reduction in commercial building operations: A provincial retrospection in China

Kai Li et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the carbon reduction changes of commercial building operations in China from 2001 to 2016, finding that provinces in northeast and north China led in reduction intensity and amount, while southwest provinces had the highest reduction-emission efficiency. The annual carbon reductions based on provincial units peaked at 167.35 MtCO(2) in 2013, with effective practices by local governments summarized for energy efficiency promotion in commercial building operations.

Python-LMDI: A Tool for Index Decomposition Analysis of Building Carbon Emissions

Xiwang Xiang et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new open-source Python tool (PyLMDI) for calculating decomposition analysis of carbon emissions in the buildings sector. Users can quickly obtain the decomposition result through a simple class data structure, and carbon emissions from commercial buildings are used as a numerical example to demonstrate the functionality of the tool.

The change in energy and carbon emissions efficiency after afforestation in China by applying a modified dynamic SBM model

Xiangyu Teng et al.

Summary: Despite being the largest energy consumer and carbon emitter in the world, China has experienced the largest increase in green leaf area. Afforestation has been highlighted as the most effective strategy for improving China's energy and carbon emissions efficiency, especially in provinces where significant changes have been observed.

Can China's industrial sector achieve energy conservation and emission reduction goals dominated by energy efficiency enhancement? A multi-objective optimization approach

Yong He et al.

Summary: This study combined industrial correlation model and multi-objective optimization model to explore the path for achieving China's 2030 energy conservation and emission reduction goals in the industrial sector while maintaining certain economic growth. The results showed that improving energy efficiency is crucial for achieving the goal of carbon emission peak, regardless of high-speed or medium-speed economic growth scenarios.

An improved decomposition approach toward energy rebound effects in China: Review since 1992

Jiandong Chen et al.

Summary: The energy rebound effect occurs when technological progress reduces energy use, but actual energy savings are lower than potential conservations. In China, fossil fuel consumption has a higher rebound effect compared to non-fossil fuels due to heterogeneous impacts of technology. Additionally, the rebound effects for both types of energy are mainly caused by the substitution effect rather than the output effect. Improving non-fossil energy efficiency can help reduce the fossil energy rebound effect.
