Designing successful energy communities: A comparison of seven pilots in Europe applying the Multi-Actor Multi-Criteria Analysis

Maria Luisa Lode et al.

Summary: In this study, we analyzed seven case studies in Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, and Greece, using the multi-actor multi-criteria analysis (MAMCA) in the design phase of Energy Communities (ECs). We found that emission reduction, community building, energy cost reduction, and grid stability were considered the most important aspects. Stakeholders in all cases preferred EC options with greater end-consumer participation and shared benefits.

Renewable energy communities: Do they have a business case in Flanders?

Alex Felice et al.

Summary: Renewable energy communities have the potential to reduce electricity provision costs by 10-26% and greenhouse gas emissions by 5-13%. Factors such as electricity tariffs, electrification ratio, prices of RE technologies and storage systems, and internal electricity exchange prices impact the cost reduction and emissions. The uptake of flexible assets and the use of higher power component in the electricity tariff can further enhance the cost reduction of RECs.

Renewable energy communities: Do they have a business case in Flanders?

Alex Felice et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of renewable energy communities on reducing energy provision costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The results indicate that renewable energy communities have the potential to reduce costs by 10% to 26% and emissions by 5% to 13%. The cost reduction depends on the type of electricity tariffs and the level of uptake of flexible assets.

Significant Increase in Fuel Efficiency of Diesel Generators with Lithium-Ion Batteries Documented by Economic Analysis

Vedat Kiray et al.

Summary: With the decline in the price of Li-ion batteries, hybrid diesel generator/Li-ion battery systems have become more feasible, leading to increased energy efficiency. Economic analysis shows that significant savings can be achieved by postponing new investments in diesel generators.
