Decoding gene regulation in the fly brain

Jasper Janssens et al.

Summary: The study reveals the diversity of neuronal and glial cell types in the Drosophila brain and identifies gene regulatory networks (GRNs) controlling their identities. By analyzing chromatin accessibility and transcriptome data, the researchers identified thousands of regulatory regions and created enhancer GRNs for different cell types.

FlyAtlas 2 in 2022: enhancements to the Drosophila melanogaster expression atlas

Sue A. Krause et al.

Summary: FlyAtlas 2 is a database and web application for studying gene expression in different tissues of Drosophila melanogaster, with enhancements including a 'Profile' search function and a dedicated feature for exploring gene expression in the larval midgut. The database now includes data from 13 tissues, five sex-specific tissues, and eight larval tissues, with major improvements to the interface.

Single-cell epigenomics reveals mechanisms of human cortical development

Ryan S. Ziffra et al.

Summary: During mammalian development, differences in chromatin state play a crucial role in cell fate specification and defining cell identity in the developing brain. Through studying chromatin accessibility patterns, it was found that cerebral organoids recapitulate most cell-type-specific enhancer accessibility patterns but lack some open chromatin regions found in vivo. Systematic comparison of chromatin accessibility across brain regions revealed unexpected diversity among neural progenitor cells and highlighted the role of retinoic acid signaling in neuronal lineage specification in the prefrontal cortex.

FlyORF-TaDa allows rapid generation of new lines for in vivo cell-type-specific profiling of protein-DNA interactions in Drosophila melanogaster

Gabriel N. Aughey et al.

Summary: The FlyORF-TaDa system allows for the easy creation of TaDa lines for 74% of all transcription factors and chromatin-modifying proteins within the Drosophila genome, enabling the generation of cell-type-specific DNA-binding profiles.
