Dicyanotriphenylamine-Based Polyimides as High-Performance Electrodes for Next Generation Organic Lithium-Ion Batteries

Kristin B. Labasan et al.

Summary: Recent studies have investigated aromatic polyimide (PI) derivatives as redox-active electrode materials for Li-ion batteries due to their high thermal stability, excellent solvent resistance, and good electrical properties. Two PI derivatives, TPA-NTCPI and TPA-PMPI, synthesized from a newly developed DiCN-TPA monomer, show promising electrochemical performance with stable specific capacities up to 1000 cycles for the cathode and high specific capacities up to 1600 mAh g(-1) for the anode after 100 cycles. These results suggest that TPA-NTCPI and TPA-PMPI could be potential organic electrode materials for next generation Li-ion batteries.

An Efficient and Reversible Battery Anode Electrode Derived from a Lead-Based Metal-Organic Framework

Febri Baskoro et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as one of the most promising alternative anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Lead-based MOFs exhibit high efficiency and reversible lithium storage, with excellent electrochemical performance and storage capacity. The DFT simulation reveals efficient absorption of Li atoms by Pb sites in MOFs, supporting high storage capacity and competitive electrochemical performance compared to other reported MOF anode electrodes.

Investigation of Capacity Increase in Schiff-Base Networks as the Organic Anode for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Zhi Zhang et al.

Summary: Schiff-base polymers are synthesized using melamine as raw material through the solvothermal method and tested as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. The capacity of the battery increases at different degrees after cycling at different current densities, due to the realization of superlithiation with the benzene ring as the lithium storage center in the polymer. The study on the interaction between material structure and electrochemical performance explores the lithium storage mechanism of the triazine Schiff-base polymer, providing guidance for the development of high-performance organic cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

High-Rate Activation of Organic Superlithiation Anodes

Bryony T. McAllister et al.

Summary: Research shows that organic anodes have the potential to replace traditional graphite anodes due to their high capacity and safety, especially superlithiated organic anodes with capacities exceeding 1500 mA h g(-1). A new pyrene-fused azaacene polymer that undergoes superlithiation and exhibits continuous activation process is proposed to achieve high capacity. In addition, it is found that there is a change in electrode structure during the activation process, but the superlithiated electrode is able to maintain the same capacity.
